The exemption, lauded as a political win, delivers a limited, almost symbolic gesture. The indirect impact of tariffs on these finished products ripples throughout the tech ecosystem, inflating costs and hindering progress, particularly in the crucial realm of artificial intelligence (AI).

The High Cost of AI Innovation

Consider Nvidia‘s DGX systems, essential for training advanced AI models. Despite the semiconductor exemption, these systems remain subject to hefty tariffs, potentially reaching 40%.
