Solana Co-Founder Engaged in Legal Dispute with Ex-Wife Over Crypto Profits
A co-founder of Solana, one of the leading blockchain platforms globally, is embroiled in a legal dispute with his former wife concerning profits derived from a substantial reserve of SOL tokens.
Allegations of Misappropriation
Stephen Akridge, a key figure in Solana’s development, has been accused by Elisa Rossi, his ex-wife, of unlawfully appropriating “millions of dollars” earned from her digital wallet’s holdings. Rossi filed a lawsuit in San Francisco Superior Court, claiming Akridge exploited his advanced knowledge of cryptocurrencies to discreetly collect staking rewards from her SOL tokens.
Staking is a method where users pledge their crypto assets to support blockchain operations, earning additional tokens as rewards. Rossi alleges Akridge secretly diverted these earnings for his benefit during their marriage.
A Rising Star Amid Controversy
Solana has recently gained significant attention in the cryptocurrency world, bouncing back from a low point tied to its association with Sam Bankman-Fried and the FTX collapse. Despite these challenges, it has emerged as a top-performing digital asset.
The lawsuit, however, adds a layer of controversy. While Rossi’s complaint does not disclose the exact value of the disputed tokens, she described them as “significant” and sought confidentiality for portions of the filing.
Legal and Professional Backgrounds
Akridge, who transitioned from Qualcomm Inc. to serve as Solana’s principal engineer, has played a pivotal role alongside co-founders Anatoly Yakovenko and Raj Gokal. His recent appointment as CEO of Cyber Grant Inc., a cybersecurity firm, also highlights his professional trajectory.
The legal battle stems from the couple’s divorce in February 2023, following a decade-long marriage. Rossi’s lawsuit alleges breach of contract, fraud, and unjust enrichment, claiming that Akridge took control of her accounts and retained all staking commissions between March and May 2023.
The case is currently pending under the title Rossi v. Akridge, CGC-24-620900, in California Superior Court, San Francisco County. Neither Solana Labs nor the parties involved have commented on the ongoing litigation.
